Fear Not Telecom Manager: Wireless Management Solutions Will Help You Impress
Wireless expense management solutions have proven time and again to help enterprises mitigate unnecessary wireless costs while also providing visibility and control over their employees' mobile devices. But still, far too many telecom managers have refrained from broaching the subject of wireless management with their CFOs. So what's the reason?
OneCall Manage's Xavier Monet has a theory – one that concerns human psychology more than issues related to cost or technology. Monet believes that telecom managers are afraid of presenting their bosses with a capable wireless management solution because it may negatively reflect their own value to the company.
"Many telecom managers are simply embarrassed to publicly admit that they’ve been spending way too much money on wireless every month," he notes in a recent blog post.
This fear can be reasonable for telecom managers who have been in their role for some time – considering the fact that it implies the company has been hemorrhaging unnecessary capital under their watch – but it will soon be forgotten once wireless costs are slashed by 20 percent or more, he adds.
Monet offers a few suggestions for telecom managers who may still be concerned over how the conversation would make them look.
Highlight Upgrades in Technology: Simply explain to your boss how new technologies have now made it possible to gain insight into wireless accounts and visibility over asset inventory.
"It’s not your fault that software capable of quickly and automatically pinpointing opportunities for savings in today’s complex corporate wireless bills didn’t become available until 2011," says Monet.
The Carriers are at Fault: Another effective and honest reason for higher than necessary wireless bills is the carriers themselves, who don't always present their rates and invoices in a transparent fashion.
"The reason you’ve overspent in the past isn’t that you’re incompetent. It’s that the carriers have been so unhelpful," Monet adds.
Update the Scoreboard at Every Opportunity: With the cost savings rolling in, make sure to bring the updated figures to your boss at every turn. This will make them quickly forget about the initial conversation, if for some reason it didn't go as planned.
Above all else, remember that CFOs love to save money. They'll be happy to hear about it.
