Navman Wireless Updates Wireless Management System
Wireless tracking of assets helps businesses monitor and manage their mobile assets. These wireless management solutions find applications in vehicle tracking and analytics, allowing companies to help fleet operators reduce risk, fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
Recently Navman Wireless, a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News
- Alert))-based GPS-based vehicle tracking and fleet optimization solutions, announced the launch of a new GPS-based speed monitoring service for its OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking system.
To develop the new wireless management system for fleet tracking, the company partnered with SpeedGauge, which specializes in offering speed management analytics for the commercial transportation industry.
The new SpeedGauge service marks the second improvement to Navman Wireless OnlineAVL2 platform in a month. Earlier this year, the company enhanced the platform by adding a route optimization capability powered by Dashfly. It allows transmitting the routing information to Navman Wireless' M-Nav in-vehicle terminals for driver notification and turn-by-turn navigation.
Components of the new OnlineAVL2 include the back-end OnlineAVL2 application; the Qube on-road and Qtanium off-road GPS tracking devices; and in-vehicle M-Nav 760 and MDT-860 mobile messaging/turn-by-turn GPS navigation devices, a press release said.
A recent study conducted by SpeedGauge has found that speed monitoring can reduce speeding incidents by up to 67 percent. It also helps reduce accident risks and reduce fuel consumption and the maintenance expenses.
"Driving speed has traditionally been a wild card in fleet management because fleet operators have had no way to measure this aspect of driver behavior. Yet speeding corresponds directly to accidents, fuel efficiency, and vehicle wear and tear," said Renaat Ver Eecke, vice president and general manager, Navman Wireless North America, in a statement.
"With SpeedGauge, managers can zero in on habitual speeders, use the information to corrective action, and dramatically reduce speeding incidents and related risk and costs through training and policy enforcement," Ver Eecke added.
The new GPS-based speed monitoring service combines the expertise of both companies in fleet monitoring. It allows fleet managers to identify high-risk driving behavior and analyze speeding patterns over time. The service is available for the fleets in the U.S. and Canada – as an add-on package to any of Navman Wireless' monthly subscription packages.
The solution also delivers periodical reports that detail the time, date, location, speed limit, actual speed and other key data for each speeding incident. The location of the violation can be precisely identified by just clicking on an incident. Users can also access a variety of trend reports that provide quick views on speed violations and improvements over time.

When it comes to WEM, speed counts Historically, TEM and WEM have moved at a glacial pace. Some WEM vendors still take months to on-board customers and start providing invoice analysis. They also struggle to provide timely ongoing insight into user behavior.
